Experience the rich history of Bath Abbey, one of England’s last grand medieval churches. Begun in 1499, the abbey was designed with a cruciform plan, used relatively rarely in other churches of that time. The interior contains fan vaulting, low aisles, nave arcades, supporting buttresses, and 52 windows, occupying about 80 percent of the wall space and giving the abbey an unusual impression of lightness. Climb the 212 steps to the top of the abbey’s tower to see the bell chamber, stand on top of the vaulted ceiling, and sit behind the clock face. There’s no need to pre-book your guided tower tour, with tickets sold at the abbey’s gift shop. Make Bath Abbey part of your personalized Bath itinerary using our Bath trip itinerary planner.

Bath Abbey is a must see when visiting Bath. Regular services are held and tourists are accommodated at all times with leaflets handed to people explaining the history of the Abbey. Entry is free of course but the Abbey welcomes donations from the visiting public. There is an Abbey shop with a variety of items such as local honey and books. I would recommend visiting if in Bath.

What a beautiful Abbey! Right next to the roman baths it's absolutely stunning. The architecture inside is incredible and beautifully done. All the staff were friendly and it was only £10 for two adults to look around. The windows are so pretty and detailed. Definitely worth popping in for a visit
