The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually a 14 hour difference. Nanjo — 3 nights

With a long Pacific coastline, Nanjo offers fantastic views of the ocean from high cliffs covered with lush greenery, as well as from its long sandy beaches.
Get some historical perspective at Okinawa Peace Memorial Park and Nakagusuku Castle Ruins. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at The Tower of Himeyuri and Valley of Gangala. Get out of town with these interesting Nanjo side-trips: Tomb of Lord Gosamaru (in Nakagusuku-son) and Himeyuri Peace Museum (in Itoman). Next up on the itinerary: steep yourself in history at Sefa-Utaki, take in the pleasant sights at Cape Chinen Park, and make a trip to Sangui.

Considered a holy space where the gods once lived, the city of Tanabe teems with spiritual, cultural, and natural beauty.
Get some historical perspective at Koyasan Okunoin and Koyasan Danjo Garan. Explore hidden gems such as Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine and Kongobu-ji Temple. Get out of town with these interesting Tanabe side-trips: Shirarahama Beach (in Shirahama-cho) and Mt. Koya (in Koya-cho). There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of Oyunohara - Original Kumano Hongu Taisha Site, indulge in Japan's hot spring tradition at some of the top local onsens, and head off the coast to Engetsuto.

Traveling by combination of bus and flight from Nanjo to Tanabe takes 5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus, flight, and train; or do a combination of taxi, ferry, and train. Traveling from Nanjo in December, things will get a bit cooler in Tanabe: highs are around 54°F and lows about 45°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Wed) early enough to drive to Nachikatsura-cho.

Traveling from Ise in December, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be little chillier in Kyoto, with lows of 39°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 4th (Wed) early enough to catch the flight to Matsue.
