City of the Tribes

A major hub for visitors exploring Ireland's western regions, Galway serves as a city of art and culture, renowned for its vibrant lifestyle and numerous festivals.
For shopping fun, head to Burren Perfumery or Charlie Byrne's Bookshop. Step out of the city life by going to Cliffs of Moher and Salthill Beaches. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Galway: Aillwee Cave (in Ballyvaughan), King John's Castle (in Limerick) and Bunratty Castle & Folk Park (in Bunratty). Spend the 12th (Sat) exploring nature at Connemara National Park & Visitor Centre. There's still lots to do: explore the striking landscape of Burren National Park and stroll around Eyre Square.

For more things to do, where to stay, photos, and tourist information, refer to the Galway trip planner.

If you are flying in from United Kingdom, the closest major aiports are Dublin Airport, Shannon Airport and Cork Airport. Expect a daytime high around 19°C in August, and nighttime lows around 12°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 12th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
