Budapest — 2 nights

Pearl of the Danube

You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Popular historic sites such as Fisherman's Bastion and Heroes' Square are in your itinerary. You'll explore and learn at Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum and House of Terror Museum. Step out of Budapest to go to Veszprem and see Castle Hill (Veszpremi Varhegy), which is approximately 1h 25 min away. Next up on the itinerary: steep yourself in history at Matthias Church, test the waters at a local thermal spa, explore the historical opulence of Buda Castle, and view the masterpieces at Hungarian National Gallery (Magyar Nemzeti Galeria).

To see more things to do, photos, other places to visit, and more tourist information, read Budapest tour itinerary planner.

Bangkok, Thailand to Budapest is an approximately 16.5-hour flight. You'll gain 6 hours traveling from Bangkok to Budapest due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Bangkok in September, things will get much colder in Budapest: highs are around 25°C and lows about 13°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 2nd (Sun) to allow time to fly back home.

Home to many of the country's main attractions, Central Hungary offers a multitude of educational attractions like museums and exhibitions. The region also draws tourists for its cultural attractions like opera houses and galleries, as well as its architectural sights, including basilicas, churches, and bridges. Pest County, the only county within this region, contains the country's capital and most of the other tourist areas in the nation. For those looking to experience the natural surroundings of Hungary, the Pilis Mountains offer many trails for hiking and mountain biking.
