The cultural and economic hub of northern Norway, Tromso boasts a historical city center containing one of the highest concentrations of wooden houses in Europe.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Safaris and Troll Museum. Get some historical perspective at Skansen and Tromso Domkirke. Ottawa, Canada to Tromso is an approximately 21-hour combination of train, bus, and flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 6 hours traveling from Ottawa to Tromso. When traveling from Ottawa in May, plan for colder days in Tromso, with highs around 9°C, while nights are a bit cooler with lows around 2°C. Geiranger — 2 nights

Pearl of the North

Surrounded by pristine nature, the scenic village of Geiranger serves as a gateway to some of Norway's most famous landscapes.
Take a break from the city and head to Flydalsjuvet and Styggevatnet og Austdalsvatnet. Step off the beaten path and head to Storseterfossen and Active Geiranger. Get out of town with these interesting Geiranger side-trips: Stryn Sommerski (in Stryn) and Eidsvatnet (in Eidsdal). Next up on the itinerary: make a trip to Fossevandring Geiranger, trek along Losta, take in the dramatic natural features at Jostedals Glacier, and admire the sheer force of Friaren.

A city famed for its underground music scene, Bergen also serves as the gateway to the fjords of Norway's western coastline.
Get some historical perspective at Troldhaugen Edvard Grieg Museum and Siljustol. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Tvindefossen and Hardangerfjord.
