City of the Tribes

A major hub for visitors exploring Ireland's western regions, Galway serves as a city of art and culture, renowned for its vibrant lifestyle and numerous festivals.
Take a break from the city and head to Connemara National Park & Visitor Centre and Burren Birds of Prey Centre. Get a sense of the local culture at Kylemore Abbey & Victorian Walled Garden and Corcomroe Abbey. Venture out of the city with trips to Dromoland Castle (in Newmarket-on-Fergus) and Fanore Beach (in Fanore). There's still lots to do: stroll through Salthill Beaches and take an in-depth tour of Galway City Museum.

For maps, ratings, reviews, and other tourist information, you can read our Galway day trip planner.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major aiports are Dublin Airport, Shannon Airport and Cork Airport. Expect a daytime high around 59°F in September, and nighttime lows around 48°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 28th (Thu) to allow enough time to travel back home.
