Experience wildlife at ARTIS, which supports an aquarium, planetarium, arboretum, and the country's oldest zoo. The zoo was founded in 1838 and holds 27 historic buildings that are wonderful examples of 19th-century architecture. The park's name is short for "natura artis magistra," (nature is the teacher of art and science). Learn about art and science through exhibits with more than 900 species of animals and 200 species of trees. Watch giraffes, zebras, monkeys, and more, along with marine life, at the on-site aquarium. By using our Amsterdam online trip planner, you can arrange your visit to ARTIS and other attractions in Amsterdam.

I've never been to a Zoo that gives the animals such little space and the animal enclosures are filthy & smelly. Much better zoos in the world. This one touches on animal abuse in my opinion.

Huge, wonderful escape from the city. Perfect for families. Must see in Amsterdam. If you are ready for lots of walking you will definitely enjoy it. Most areas are prepared for stroller walks. There's a few cafes and restaurants within the zoo and some of them are suitable for babies, equipped with baby chairs and changing tables. We loved it there and will be back again.

It's good but lacking in some regards. There's a lot of interesting animals to be seen and it has a butterfly area also. Some animals might be MIA during some periods of the day which is a shame, just like any other zoo. It's good a good amount of public toilets and water taps, as well as benches for resting. Enjoy some of my favorite and most photogenic animals from our visit.
