The most northerly aquarium on the planet, Polaria dedicates its exhibits to the wildlife and ecosystems of Norway's most extreme reaches. Visit the facility, housed in a building designed to resemble ice sheets, and explore its multitude of Artic display tanks. Although the city of Tromso itself is northern, the aquarium offers a special focus on the Svalbard archipelago. Wander the many exhibits dedicated to cold-water creatures, including shoreline dwellers, and stop by the open enclosure to visit its contingent of bearded seals. We enjoyed this small aquarium focused on local arctic sealife. We thought it was interesting, and seeing the seals being trained was good. Everything looked well cared for.

This is a small aquarium that focuses on the arctic sea life around Norway. The exhibits are well done with easy to see fish and animals and detailed and interesting descriptions. The theatre offers 3 short films highlighting the region including the Northern Lights, Svalbard, and an insider’s view of the aquarium. Tourist buses arrive around the three daily seal feeding and training sessions. Best to time your visit to end with the seals so the other exhibits are less crowded.

Small but nice aquarium. You will need 60 to 90 minutes to see everything ...Highlight of the Polaria is the seal feeding which takes place 3x per day, last 3:30pm. Aquarium closes at 4pm. The fish feeding is also quite interesting. And there is a 120 degree cinema that shows 3 different movies. Public Parking is available in front of Polaria. Cost approx. 2,1 EUR per hour.
