Create an itinerary including Hovedoya
A small island off the coast, Hovedoya offers lush scenery and natural beauty, as well as many outdoor and cultural activities. Hike through the island's nature reserve to see a variety of plants and animals. Go swimming on the west side of the island, where you'll find two beaches and good swimming spots. Check out the cannon batteries and gunpowder depots that remain from 1808, during the period that the Norwegian army owned the island. Be sure to stop by the ruins of Hovedøya Abbey, the Cistercian monastery built in 1147. You can hop on boat route line 92 or 93 leaving from Vippetangen to reach the site. It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Hovedoya and many more Oslo attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Oslo online trip itinerary builder.

  • Came to see the ruins interesting in the snow easy walk to the different vantage points to view the nearby area even in winter worth the trip. Enjoyed looking at the old cannons protecting the bays...

  • Beautiful and convenient. You can use your Ruter transportation pass for the ferry rides to these Islands, so it no extra cost. Free with Oslo Pass, or Ruter Zone 1 period pass. 🌞😎
  • A cute lil island with insane views and a nice cafe. There were a few rams which liked some scritchies! A good spot for a weekend picnic and the ferry to this and other islands nearby are in zone 1 so no special ticket required.
