A stunningly well-preserved ancient temple in a picturesque setting, Tempio di Segesta has survived nearly 2,500 years seemingly unaffected by the ravages of time. Sitting on a hill just outside the site of the ancient city of Segesta, this Doric temple was built sometime in the late fifth century BCE. Several things suggest that the structure was never actually completed, such as the unfluted columns and the lack of any evidence that it possessed a finished roof. The building also appears never to have had a cella, a small inner chamber usually found in Hellenic temples. The origins of the temple remain a mystery, as it was constructed in an area that was not mainly populated by Greeks. Be sure to bring your camera and wear a pair of comfortable shoes, as the terrain is a bit steep and bumpy on the way up. • Very worthwhile the visit. Impressive how things were build thousands of years ago. Nice grounds to walk around, great views. Entry on July 21 was EUR 6/Per. Parking is extra but does include the shuttle from the Parking to the site and back. Bring a hat & water, very little shade when you are roaming around.
  • This place is fantastic! In my subjective opinion even better than Valley of Temples. Cause it’s smaller, cheaper and the amphitheater has a stunning view!! We loved this place!
