Create an itinerary including Chester Beatty
Chester Beatty houses a large collection of Islamic and Far Eastern artifacts, including manuscripts, prints, paintings, rare books, and decorative arts. Established in 1950 to store the vast collections of Alfred Chester Beatty, a well-known mining mogul, the library now attracts both serious scholars and amateur art lovers. The standout among the library's collection of over 20,000 objects is the "Gospel of Mani," the last remaining artifact of Manichaeism, an ancient belief system that originated in Persia. Start your self-guided tour by exploring the first-floor gallery about Beatty's life and career, and end your visit at the rooftop Japanese garden, which offers unrestricted views of the city's emblematic castle. Put Chester Beatty on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Dublin trip planner.

  • I found the displays very interesting and informative. A lot of objects to learn about and study, and I liked how these were presented. Would recommend as a visit if in Dublin

  • I was given a recommendation to go here after seeing Dublin Castle. The early Christian gospels on display were overwhelming to see in person and effected me on a deep spiritual level. I am so...

  • Definitely the most interesting museum I’ve visited in Dublin, with a really cool collection of Asian (Persian, Indian, Chinese, Japanese) art and manuscripts. Definitely worth a visit. When we went there was an exhibition about Isfahan in Iran but I found the permanent collection was more interesting.
  • We've had a very nice tour from Jesse at the Chester Beatty Library. Very interactive, which makes it fun to hear about all the old valuable books and other ancient stuff. Recommend going here and don't mind to ask some things to Jesse, because it's very interesting what he has to say
