For the visitor who wants to look beyond the obvious, Kieran McCarthy's tour comes highly recommended. Cobh's extraordinary, conflicted history as both naval port economically dependent on the British Empire and Irish town seeking self-determination and independence is laid bare over a two-hour tour including the sites of shocking ambushes, historical insight into the power structures of church and state, and some more light-hearted moments. Kieran is extremely knowledgeable and a very good tour host.

I had a fantastic time listening to Kieran narrating historical events that occurred in Cobh and it's links with Tralee, more globally Ireland and the other side of the continent. His knowledge and attention to detail left me absorbed during the tour. My expectectations were fulfilled. I would have bought Kieran's book instantly if a print version was available, it would have made the perfect souvenir gift. Pity it's not available in the local information office, it would be an extraordinary asset for Cobh's visitors.
