Explore the world of colorful insects at Valley of the Butterflies, a nature reserve famous for sheltering a tiger moth species native to the region. Watch the small river flow through this protected zone, transitioning to a waterfall that plummets into a green pool. Get a close-up look at the sweetgum trees, which host millions of caterpillars. If possible, time your visit for the end of the wet season, when the caterpillars transform into colorful moths. Before you go, stop at the park's natural history museum and see displays about native wildlife and a state-of-the-art moth hatchery. • Absolutely need to visit. Despite we were visiting the beautiful place out of butterfly season and despite it is a hard trip with many stairs and difficult routes , the nature is astonishing.

  • Visit in June. A few butterflies only. 45-60 minutes walking/hiking up both, the lower and upper parts of the valley trough the forest and another 45 minutes for descending back. A small river runs along the path and small waterfalls are seen. 3 euro entrance fee. The property needs some maintenance and a proper management of the park. Parking places are organized between the upper and the lower part of the valley, along the main road.
  • Beautiful place to visit even not in the butterfly season. Many stairs up and after you go back same road down. Entrance is 3 €, however if you want to enter restroom on top, you have to pay 0.50 € and machine does not give change..
