See one of the most comprehensive collections of wild animals in the entire world--nearly 20,000 animals--at Zoo Berlin. The country's oldest and best-known zoo opened in 1844 and covers more than 34 hectares (84 acres). More than 3 million visitors each year come to the zoo and its adjoining aquarium, making it the most-visited site of its kind in all of Europe. The zoo is known worldwide for sheltering endangered animals, such as polar bears and giant pandas. Check the website for feeding times and other special events. You can save a lot of time by purchasing your tickets online. PutZoo Berlin into our Berlin road trip planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

Don’t understand what all the good reviews are about. All of the enclosures were very dirty and the animals didn’t look well cared for at all. zero staff around and just a genuinely depressing visit..... more

We first started with the elephants from the zoo. There are toilets at certain intervals, which I think is a super thing. Toilets are clean, not crowded and there are baby changing areas. Again, there were places where we could buy coffee etc. at certain points. It was very crowded, but people were distant from each other. We wore masks in closed areas. If you pay attention to the hours, you have the opportunity to watch the feeding hours. We watched the little monkeys feed, it was so much fun. There is also a very large and extensive playground for children. It is suitable for all ages, including babies.

There are plenty of places to eat inside. It is very organize and friendly for the kids. There is an amazing playground inside. It is pretty easy to walk with the stroller. I will recommend to check the website to see the eating times of the animals and I will highly recommend to buy the tickets online to enter as soon as you arrive. During the weekends is always full but at the weekdays is always nice to go to the playground or walk around. There is also a nice Store at the exit to get some nice souvenirs
