Located on Mount Eliza and overlooking Perth Water, State War Memorial houses the Cenotaph, a well-known city landmark. Erected in honor of all Australian soldiers whose remains are buried elsewhere, the Cenotaph represents an "empty tomb." Anzac Day is a national holiday observed in April to honor Australians and New Zealanders who served in the military and died in wars and peacekeeping operations. On Anzac Day, a service is held at the memorial that attracts over 40,000 visitors. At this site, you can also visit the flame of remembrance and a pool of reflection, inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000. • A serene space with a wonderful view. One could spend a bit of time just looking. There is a great shop and cafe nearby and easy walks around the space.

  • The view is spectacular, the gardens are brilliant, the memorial is very well done, a nice tribute to the men and women who fought for this country. Make a special trip up to kings park, the views of the city and the river are worth it. The tree top walk is great. In the summer there are often concerts on in the park, there are also places to eat, and plenty of playgrounds for the kids. Just all in all it’s a great place to spend the day.
  • The world wars were the first major conflicts this nation had seen. Humanity as a whole had seldom seen such gruelling and prolonged conflict — Australian troops rose above and beyond the call of duty. Their heroic sacrifice gave us the freedoms and the security we enjoy today. Though the structure itself may not rank at the top of eye-catching marvels in Perth, what this structure represents is of major significance.
