Take a tour through Western Australian maritime history as you explore vessels salvaged from the sea at the WA Shipwrecks Museum. This museum is recognized as the foremost maritime archaeology museum in the Southern Hemisphere. See relics, such as cannons, hulls, and engines, from shipwrecks, dating back to the 17th century. Keep an eye out for the original Dutch vessel Batavia, which sank off the coast of Western Australia in 1629. Convicts built the museum in the 1850s, and today it sits in the heart of Fremantle's historic West End. • Beautifully presented museum, I'm just not that into shipwrecks I guess. The displays were well presented and the staff were friendly.

  • Loved the museum. There was so much information available not only about the ship and its story of wreckage but on the recovery and restoration process. Would definitely visit again. No entry fee necessary but they do accept donations.
  • Very impressive museum. From the building to the staff that greet you a good experience. Entry is just a small donation. The location is great with good restaurants nearby. A must do.
