Horsey Beach, Horsey

#4 of 104 in Outdoors in Norfolk
Must see · Beach · Nature / Park
Come face to face with grey seals at Horsey Beach, the mainland mating place where you can take a peek into the lives of these sea animals. Walk on the paved paths around the area up to the dunes 2 km (1.25 mi) from the parking lot. Sip tea or coffee at one of the many cafes and restaurants available right there on the beach and catch sight of cow (momma) seals resting with their little pups. The wind on the shore can get strong, so consider bringing a jacket. Operators recommend staying back at least 15 m (49 ft) from seals. • Nearly 2000 seal pups already this year. Great to see the seals and they spread out over huge area these days so you should always see them. Good road to car park and good car park. Wardens helpful and informative. Sad to see some pups perished but that's nature at work I suppose. Some high tides have not helped.
  • After arriving at the fee paying car park it's a short walk through the sand dunes to the beach and as you are walking on sand I would suggest wearing comfortable footwear and remember your camera. After walking on the beach for a while you will stumble across the most amazing sight a colony of wild grey seals lying on the beach near to the shoreline. Of course because they are wild you need to respect them and keep your distance and if you take your dog please keep it on a lead and under control. Definitely a must visit if your near Great Yarmouth in Norfolk.
