A major hub for visitors exploring Ireland's western regions, Galway serves as a city of art and culture, renowned for its vibrant lifestyle and numerous festivals.
Get some historical perspective at Belleek Castle Museum and Royal Abbey of Cong. Get some cultural insight at Thomond Park Stadium and Bunratty Castle & Folk Park. Venture out of the city with trips to Dog's Bay Beach (in Roundstone), Renvyle Beach (in Renvyle) and Joyce Country Sheepdogs (in Shanafaraghaun). There's still lots to do: explore the striking landscape of Connemara National Park & Visitor Centre, stop by Foxford Woollen Mills & Visitor Centre, examine the collection at Michael Davitt Museum, and pause for some serene contemplation at Ballintubber Abbey.

For where to stay, more things to do, reviews, and more tourist information, you can read our Galway trip maker tool.

If you are flying in from Uruguay, the closest major aiports are Dublin Airport, Shannon Airport and Cork Airport. In January in Galway, expect temperatures between 7°C during the day and 2°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 25th (Thu) so you can travel back home.
