A major hub for visitors exploring Ireland's western regions, Galway serves as a city of art and culture, renowned for its vibrant lifestyle and numerous festivals.
Royal Abbey of Cong and Poulnabrone Dolmen are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Take a break from the city and head to Kayaking & Canoeing and Galway Bay. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Galway: Killary Fjord (in Leenane), Burren National Park (in Corofin) and Ashford Castle (in Cong). There's still lots to do: identify plant and animal life at Burren Birds of Prey Centre and take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Croagh Patrick.

To find ratings, photos, and tourist information, you can read our Galway tour builder tool.

If you are flying in from Canada, the closest major aiports are Dublin Airport, Shannon Airport and Cork Airport. In August in Galway, expect temperatures between 19°C during the day and 12°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 25th (Sat) to allow time to travel back home.
