Walk along the footpath at Aare Gorge to see the Aare River up close and experience its power. A product of glaciations many millennia ago, the river carves dramatically through a limestone ridge. Although less than 1.5 km (0.9 mi) in length, the walls of the gorge reach up 50 m (165 ft) on both sides. Visitors have walked the gorge for over 100 years, although the footpath, which clings to the walls, is much safer and more modern today. You can relax afterwards with a coffee and cake at one at one of the entrance restaurants. Wear sensible shoes and a waterproof jacket to shield you from the river's spray. Aare Gorge Reviews
Next to hotel 'Post und Hof' there is a train station. We bought a train ticket, including the entrance of the gorge. The train stopped in a tunnel, only 1 door was available to get off the train. Her... more »
Visite en couple par temps maussade. Malgré tout impressionnant. La couleur de l'eau (blanc-vert) des glaciers donne une atmosphère irréelle. Aucun danger, pas besoin d'être sportif (longueur 1,4 km).... more »Couple visit in dregy weather. Still impressive. The color of the water (white-green) of the glaciers gives an unreal atmosphere. No danger, no need to be sporty (1.4 km length). Round-trip time: about 1 hour and a half. Price 9.- (including back by train if you like). (P.S. If the weather is bad, you can even take an umbrella, there is enough room.)
More magical in person. Feels like a scene from the movie Avatar. The walk is relatively easy (I am allergic to exercise of any form and this was doable). There are steps but plenty of benches to sit if you want to rest. There is a restaurant at the end of the walkway....so worth while and the walk back is more downhill and relatively easy. We went on a Sunday at 3pm, it was not to busy.
An easy walk through a gorgeous slot canyon. The path is built into the wall of the canyon and is very safe. This would be a great walk for kids. It took us about 45 minutes to complete. Your entrance ticket includes the train back to the entrance or to the train station (it's the same train, different stops).
