At Pelisor Castle, visit the arched "golden bedroom," where Queen Marie spent her final hours entirely covered in thistle leaves--symbols of Scotland, her native land. King Carol I ordered the castle to be built for his heir, future King Ferdinand, and his wife Marie, at the end of the 19th century. The interior, decorated with early 20th-century Viennese furniture and Tiffany glassware, reflects the personal style of the queen. In the hall of honor, pay attention to the glass ceiling and oak paneling. The paintings and drawings on the walls depict the queen with her children. In the queen's study, you'll find a typical Romanian fireplace and the queen's emblem on the chairs and desk. Pretty average compared to Peles. Its much smaller and there to squizee extra money out of tourists imho. In and out in 25 minutes. more »

I highly recommend. The design of the furniture is impressive. If you are a fan of painted furniture you cannot miss this. Also the roof of the two towers, made by colorful tile, is very special. more »

The castle is very impressive but badly maintained. The gardens are dirty and not kept. There is only one toilet for hundreds of visitors a day, which were closed at least until 10:30 when we left
