Rallarvegen, Myrdal

#5 of 19 in Trails in Sogn og Fjordane
Biking Trail · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
The popular bicycle road Rallarvegen takes you through a highland area passing glaciers, streams, lakes, forests, a goat farm, and a series of waterfalls. It dates back some hundred years, when it served to transport men and materials for the Oslo-Bergen Railway Line. Start at 1,000 m (3,280 ft) above sea level, ascend an additional 350 m (1,148 ft), and then start your descent back to the fjords. The unpaved road is mostly gravel with some smaller stony parts, and very steep at times. Ride carefully, since parts of the road remain in bad condition, and the entire way largely unsecured. Note that it can get quite crowded on weekends. Using our international travel planner, Myrdal attractions like Rallarvegen can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.
