Historic Walking Area · Hidden Gem · Architectural Building
At Savina Monastery, see the relics originating from the time of Nemanjic royal family, such as artifacts of Empress Jelena, the cross of Saint Sava, and the shroud from the Tvrdos monastery. The monastery complex features a Baroque cathedral, an 11th-century church, dormitories with the treasury, and the church of St. Sava, isolated on a nearby hill. The monastery's architecture is a mixture of styles--Byzantine, ancient Greek, Roman, and Baroque. Above the door on the inside of the small church, look for an inscription from 1831, which notes that the structure was built in 1030. Several layers of frescoes on the inner walls illustrate the life of Jesus. Use our Herceg-Novi trip builder app to add Savina Monastery and other attractions to your Herceg-Novi vacation plans.
