See what once was the political, cultural, and administrative center of the Lithuanian empire at Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. It housed the royalty of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, including Grand Duke Alexander of Lithuania, who later became the King of Poland, and Sigismund I the Old and his heirs. The palace was almost completely destroyed in 1801 after the fall of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, but was fully restored and modernized by the government in 2002.     It is a huge and there are 4 tours. We walked ourselves without the audio guide. There were information plagues in English about the exhibits so it was fine. Observation deck was good and does give....  more »

    Nicely laid out modern museum, giving a good overview of the history of the palace and Lithuania. Best to go just for tours I and II, the others are small and niche. Very text heavy so you might tire quickly.
