Easily recognizable by its blue domes, Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque represents a Sunni place of worship and a major architectural landmark of Beirut. Completed in 2008, the imposing structure is designed in a grandiose Ottoman style and boasts towering, 65 m (213 ft) tall minarets. The Lebanese prime minister Rafic Hariri, who made a major donation toward the mosque's building costs, is buried beside the iconic structure. This is one of the most beautiful mosques in Lebanon. What I like is its architecture and its peaceful atmosphere. What I don't like is that sometimes the carpets smell and the women's toilet is not always clean.
During my week in Beirut, I visited the mosque a few times as it is truly beautiful inside and I had lovely encounters with worshippers who would approach me and ask about my reasons for visiting the mosque and Lebanon. The chandeliers and painted ceiling are masterpieces and it’s a quiet, comfortable sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Beirut.
