Roccia dell'Elefante, Castelsardo

3.9
Raising its trunk at the side of Highway 134, you'll find Roccia dell'Elefante, an elephant-shaped rock used in ancient times as a necropolis. Originally part of the Rocky Mount Caseddazzu, the rock broke off centuries ago and rolled downhill before coming to rest at its current location. The inside walls feature carved bovine horns, representing the bull god revered for his strength and associated with death and regeneration. You'll also find furnishings meant to remind the dead of their earthly homes. • Rock from the likeness of Pachiderma, to be seen at least once if you stay in Sardinia. It is surely one of the most pleasant memories for the little ones who will forget the roads, the curves, the countries.... But they will never forget the elephant rock

  • Right on the road. It is a former tomb. Almost every excursion from Castelsardo goes to it. It is about 6km away from Hotel Pedraladda

  • It's a rock that looks like an elephant, see the pictures.. Beautiful if you are into rocks that look like elephants.. It's next to a highway and try to take a bus or car there, they don't really facilitate towards hiking.
  • It's a must during a bike excursion in this area. Many don't know the roccia dell'elefante is an archaeological site as well, so visiting this site you can combine the view with some culture. A sight is highly suggested if you are in the surroundings.
