Celtic and Prehistoric Museum, Ventry

#2 of 8 in Things to do in Ventry
Celtic and Prehistoric Museum offers a different kind of historical experience, with collections dating back thousands of years. Harris Moore founded this private museum about 10 years ago and filled six rooms with fascinating artifacts, including objects from the Jurassic, Stone and Bronze Ages, as well as the Celtic and Viking eras. You have the chance to see the only intact wooly mammoth skull in Ireland, with its tusks still attached, as well as a complete baby dinosaur skeleton, a large nest of dinosaur eggs, and a cave bear skeleton. Celtic and Prehistoric Museum is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Ventry Edition.

  • Visited the museum today, very over priced. I'm no expert but would question how many of the artefacts are genuine. A very rude and argumentative person at the front desk. Should have walked away and ...  more »
  • One of the most fantastic collections I have ever seen. I have visited some of the most prestigious and well-known museums in the world, and this little museum holds it own. What it may lack in great quantity is made up for by its tremendous quality. It holds items that one would think would be displayed in the British Museum and would still be regarded as a highly prized item. Absolutely worth a visit. The cave bear skeletons, the mammoth skull, the myriad of stone-, bronze-, and iron-age tools and trinkets, dinosaur fossils, and the varied weapons all make for a very interesting and worthwhile visit. Make time to stop in. The owner was very interesting and very kind (he allowed us in even though he was technically closed). This museum was one of the highlights of my entire trip across the UK and Ireland.
  • Amazing Museum! I especially loved the Woolly mammoth skull and the beautiful ancient celtic jewelry. The owner Harris was very kind and interesing, He even gave me a personal guided tour. A MUST see if your in the area
