Malahide Castle, Malahide

#1 of 10 in Things to do in Malahide
Home to the same family for nearly eight centuries, Malahide Castle sits just a few minutes north of the capital city, easily accessible by car or public bus. The estate dates back to the 12th century, when Richard Talbot (a knight serving King Henry II) received these lands as part of a royal grant. Talbot's descendants lived here until 1976, expanding and modifying the original structure over the centuries. Take a guided tour to see the interior of the castle, noted for its Talbot family portraits and decorative carvings. The surrounding parkland also contains several popular attractions, including a museum housing a large collection of antique dolls and toys. • After the visit of Dublin, who has a few more days can spend it to visit the surroundings of the city. This castle is definitely a great option. From Dublin we took the DART. Half an hour and projected itself into the Irish relaxation. From the station with 10 minutes walk in an extensive and tidy park you reach the castle. The visit is guided in English language. For others, an audioguide is provided which automatically activates through the rooms. The visit is very interesting. Plus there's a visit to the garden. Everything is very well cared for. For me the cost of the ticket is rewarded by the experience lived.

  • Was a lovely sunny Easter Sunday so made for a good day but the prices are a bit high for what you get as was nearly 30 euro for 3 adults and 2 kids to walk around some nice gardens. The butterfly house was nice but again just not what you would expect for the money.
  • Beautiful and well kept grounds. It's the perfect place to go for a walk or run. I've never actually paid to go into the castle or the garden itself but the grounds surrounding them are lovely. There's some fun workout equipment along one of the paths too.
