Home to the same family for nearly eight centuries, Malahide Castle sits just a few minutes north of the capital city, easily accessible by car or public bus. The estate dates back to the 12th century, when Richard Talbot (a knight serving King Henry II) received these lands as part of a royal grant. Talbot's descendants lived here until 1976, expanding and modifying the original structure over the centuries. Take a guided tour to see the interior of the castle, noted for its Talbot family portraits and decorative carvings. The surrounding parkland also contains several popular attractions, including a museum housing a large collection of antique dolls and toys. Loved Malahide Castle, so much space, two big car parks, great playground and the castle itself is wonderful. Disappointed we couldn't go into castle and do the tour which is brilliant. But the grounds and history is fantastic. We walked down to the Marina through tbe Village of Malahide, which is full of unusual shops, cafes and even an inside market where we got 2 tasty coffees & muffins for €8.50 😋😊

This is one of Dublin's many fabulous assets. Plenty of parking and grounds to walk around. Good shopping and food too. Haven't been inside castle but it looks exciting from the outside.
