Torc Waterfall, Killarney

4.5
A convenient place to start your exploration of Ireland's oldest national park, Torc Waterfall offers panoramic views of the region's three interlinked lakes. You can reach the base of the waterfall via a short trail through a densely wooded area, covered in moss and known for attracting herds of native red deer. This waterfall is an important natural landmark on one of the country's major long-distance walks, a 214 km (133 mi) long circular trail that begins and ends in the nearby town of Killarney. You can access this popular trail by ascending a series of steps just to the left of the waterfall. To see the fall at its full glory, visit after a heavy rain. • My family and I love hiking. We didn't have a lot of time this particular morning, so the 40 minute "yellow trail" hike was perfect for us. Beautiful waterfall!  more »
  • This waterfall is located in Killarney National Park, part of the Ring of Kerry. The waterfall is not large, its height is only 18 meters. It collapses into a pool, in which the fragments of rocks are covered with moss, and then almost turns into a stream. There is a legend as to how this waterfall appeared: in these parts lived a young man, who because of the curse imposed on him, during the day was a handsome man, and at night became a wild boar. His girlfriend was curious where he went every night, and as usual, he followed him and learned his secret. Desperate for the discovery of his secret, he rolled down the mountain with a fireball, forming a rift with water gushing out of it.

  • One of my favourite waterfall spots except be warned it's very popular! It's a very short, easy walk and the whole way are flowing cascades even in the middle of summer when we were there! I enjoyed the greenery the whole walk and the parking was free but very busy, we ended up parking on the side of the road
  • It was a nice waterfall, a short and relatively easy walk from the parking lot. A bit crowded, and the visitors’ center was closed (not sure what the hours are). Nice stop along the Ring of Kerry, but not my favorite part by any means.
