Salthill Promenade, Galway

4.4
#1 of 15 in Historic Sites in Galway
Lined by bars, restaurants, and hotels, Salthill Promenade stretches along Galway Bay. The "Prom," as the locals call it, is the longest seaside promenade in the country, attracting both casual strollers and long-distance joggers. You can reach the promenade from any part of the city in about five minutes by simply heading toward the water. As you walk or run along this sign-posted path, remember the local tradition that claims kicking the prom wall unfailingly brings good luck. Time your stroll or jog for late afternoon when the promenade becomes a prime spot for watching the sunset. • Woke up to a beautiful morning on our 2nd day in Galway and decided to walk the Salthill Promenade. Both locals and tourists utilize the pathways along the way, moms with kids and babies in strollers,...  more »
  • Honestly, considering everything you can achieve from Galway, I don't think it's an attraction that deserves a specific visit. However, considering that the aquarium is across the street, especially after visiting it, a nice walk helps to re-enter the outside world (at the aquarium) with due calm, without suffering the shock of immediately moving from dream to real life. I do not recommend it in the summer, because it is an easily very frequented and relatively hot place. Instead of autumn, with fewer tourists around, you can fully enjoy it, breathing full lungs the healthy air that the ocean brings us and seems to want to push us hard into the lungs, thanks to the wind far from negligible.
