Connemara National Park & Visitor Centre, Galway

4.7
Connemara National Park & Visitor Centre encompasses diverse landscapes that include vast grasslands, dense woodlands, high mountain peaks, and swaths of bogs and heaths. Established in 1980, the park spans nearly 3,000 hectares (7,400 acres) and contains several remnants of megalithic human civilizations, including 4,000-year-old tombs. A good pair of binoculars can open a window into the park's world of songbirds, which include meadow pipits, skylarks, chaffinches, robins, and wrens. You can begin your trek across the sprawling park at the visitor center, offering a brief introduction into the area's wildlife and geology. Guided nature walks, which depart from the center, cover rough and very boggy terrain, so dress appropriately if you choose to join in. Our Galway vacation planner makes visiting Connemara National Park & Visitor Centre and other Galway attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Beautiful place to visit with breath-taking iconic Irish scenery. I recommend hiring a bicycle to enjoy the views.  more »
  • Exciting national park. There are 3 levels of routes in the Park, which fits different challenges. The hardest part is going up a mountain and was going to be really challenging. There is a beautiful nature and excellent views of the National Park and the coast of Connemara, but although there are many people, then there is also a lovely tranquillity of the Park. The staff at the visitors ' Centre was really helpful and sweet

  • Fantastic hike! Not a lot of variety of wildlife but fantastic views of Connemara all the same. Easy and more difficult walks for all ages and experience levels. There's a lovely tea room at the end of the hike where you can grab a victory coffee and sandwich. Great way to spend a day!
  • Beautiful national park. Hiking trail isn't too long or challenging and has amazing views. The drive in and out of the park is windy and on small roads, but some of the most breathtaking sights in western Ireland.
