Trip Planner: Europe / Ireland / Province of Munster / County Clare / The Burren / Doolin / Doolin Cave
See one of the largest free-hanging stalactites in the world at Doolin Cave. J.M. Dickenson and Brian Varley, members of an English caving club, discovered the limestone cave in 1952. After negotiations with the Speleological Union of Ireland, the site opened to the public in 2006. Today you can step into the cave and marvel at the 7.3 m (24 ft) Great Stalactite. Walk the long passageways of the cave, officially named Pol an Ionain, and experience one of Ireland's natural wonders. Doolin Cave Reviews
We had already planned to do this with the cliffs of Moher since it was on the way today. Id say to book around lunch time and grab a bite to eat. Food made with love. We both had the Paninis and shar... more »
Lovely tour with a very well informed and interesting guide. There’s 125 steps up and down but you can go at your own pace so no stress. Beautiful features inside and an interesting history. more »
A lovely roadside attraction with quite an interesting history and geological relevance. The staff were incredibly friendly and the guided tour was well organized and informative. The cave itself is quite moving to experience if that is where your interest lays. There is quite a long set of stairs to climb down and up to get into the main cave so be prepared for some excersise. Additionally due to the depth of the cave it can be a bit chilly at the bottom so be sure to have a sweater or light jacket handy. They have a cafe and good restrooms too which was definitely a plus for when we stopped by.
Our guide Gary was both funny and really informative. We had a small group which allowed us to ask more questions and it was really nice and personal. The 50 minutes went so fast! The cafe is nice too with coffees and teas and cakes
