Built over 1,000 years ago and more than twice the size of a regular fort, Caherconnell is the only fort in the Burren scientifically excavated and developed for tourism. With walls that are 12 feet thick and from 6-14 feet high, this cashel is an exceptionally well preserved example of the stone forts or ringforts, which are to be found in the west of Ireland

  • Found the stone fort really interesting as there were archaeologists there digging and answering questions about it. The cafe was lovely, food was delicious and very child friendly menu and atmosphere...  more »
  • We saw a great demonstration of the herding dogs here. We also looked at Stone Fort.
