Rajahmundry is in East Godavari district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located on the banks of the Godavari River. On 10 October 2015, the government made the official announcement to rename the city with its original name, Rajamahendravaram.HistoryThe city can be traced back to the rule of the Eastern Chalukya king Raja Raja Narendra, who reigned around 1022 AD, after whom it is named – Rajamahendri or Rajamahendravaram. Remains of 11th-century palaces and forts still exist. However, new archaeological evidence suggests that the town may have existed long before the Chalukyas.
