Perched atop a rocky hill, Acropolis of Lindos represents natural citadel fortified over the centuries by the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, and the Ottomans. Offering sweeping views of a small town's picturesque harbor, this important archaeological site contains remains of several ancient structures, the most notable of which is a Doric temple dedicated to the goddess Athena and dated to about 300 BCE. A monumental medieval wall surrounds this age-old temple and fortifications built by the Crusaders in the 14th century. The climb up to these ancient ruins can be quite arduous; you can make it a bit easier by arranging for a donkey ride up to the top. • It was beautiful! I loved this visit so much. One side note is we had to pay to use the restroom but I've seen that in other cities as well. I will definitely go back one day! ❤
  • I hear it's an unbelievably hot, humid, packed, and slow during on season. Off season is much more tame. You can actually enjoy the architecture and take in the sights, sometimes without another soul in sight in Lindos itself. Then the Acropolis itself is wondrous to behold. We were among the first up, and luckily that afforded peace and quiet amongst structures old as the hills. Amazing.
