A product of Russian expansionism in the region, Helsinki Cathedral was built by architect Carl Ludvig Engel as the pinnacle of the city's Senate Square. The cathedral was constructed between 1830 and 1852 in the neoclassical style as a tribute to Tsar Nicholas I of Russia. After Finland gained independence in 1917, it became a Finnish Evangelical Lutheran cathedral. Helsinki is such an beautiful city during Christmas time, I am a little saddened that we didn't get to spend more time than we had, but I tried to make the most of it, it was quite late at night when we saw this majestic piece of architecture with its incandescent flood lights. I would loved to have seen the interior so I can't say much about it, but judging from its outer appearance it must be something to behold.

The exterior of the cathedral was really nice. It was magnificent, beautiful, and overflowing with classic beauty. Mint and white, It's a beautiful color that comes to mind when you think of Finland. So I went in with anticipation, but I think the inside was a little bit impractical. I think it would have been grand enough to use a large dome in the middle as a room.
