Take a step back in Canada's history at Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons, site of Ontario's first European community and headquarters for the French Jesuit Mission to the Huron Wendat people. Established in 1639, settlers built a fenced town of barracks, workshops, residences, and a church. In 1649, in response to repeated attacks from the rival Iriquois nation, the residents burned their homes and fled. Today, the recreated community brings the mission's fascinating story to life as a historical site and living museum. Take a guided or self-guided tour to experience and learn about this era.
