Walk among many important government buildings at Independence Square, Minsk, a typical Soviet square. Notice the famous three storks on top of the largest of several glass domes that dominate the square. The three storks symbolize the city’s independence, and the domes cover an underground shopping center. As part of the square, formerly known as Lenin Square, you'll find two state universities, a luxurious hotel, the main post office, and a famous red church. The square is part of the main city avenue, which is included in the World Heritage Tentative List. Watch for the large bust of Lenin in front of the parliament building.
