Climb to the top of the Gloucester Tree for a commanding view of the surrounding karri (eucalyptus) forest. At 72 m (236 ft), it stands as the second tallest of Australia's lookout trees. Because this tree originally served to enable forest rangers to survey the land and spot forest fires, you can today climb a spiraling bolted ladder of 153 spikes to a platform at the top. The site recommends against having children climb the ladder, but some families permit their kids to do so. You can go up the tree for free, but the parking lot charges a fee if you arrive by car. • We were staying within walking distance and worth another visit. We didn't stay long as it was raining. Area around tree has been improved since our last visit many years ago when our kids climbed...

  • It literally takes just five minutes to reach the top, and another five to descend. Fantastic views, worth ticking off that bucket list.

  • Very interesting place. Is set in a nice small national park (entry fee or park pass are required). The tree is very impressive and rather amazing with the ladder. It is quite a climb to the top to a viewing platform. Great place for thrill seekers.
  • Great tree climb, go early to avoid the queue/crowd. If you can only do one walk trail do the big one, the Gloucester Route. Such a rewarding experience with peaceful and beautiful unspoilt views. It starts off a bit up and down but flattens out a bit a short way in.
