Take a tour through Western Australian maritime history as you explore vessels salvaged from the sea at the WA Shipwrecks Museum. This museum is recognized as the foremost maritime archaeology museum in the Southern Hemisphere. See relics, such as cannons, hulls, and engines, from shipwrecks, dating back to the 17th century. Keep an eye out for the original Dutch vessel Batavia, which sank off the coast of Western Australia in 1629. Convicts built the museum in the 1850s, and today it sits in the heart of Fremantle's historic West End. PutWA Shipwrecks Museum into our Fremantle day trip planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • We popped in to have a look around and the kids loved it. They were entertained with a treasure hunt while i got to peruse the maritime history of WA.  more »

  • Amazing place to visit. I've been living in Perth for over 3 years and I've never been there. But this weekend we went there with family and is free and amazing. Every thing there is historically incredible.
  • Very impressive with all sorts of stories and exhibits which I believe change fairly often. There's a huge excavated shipwreck on display as well as small bits of pottery and glassware and even an skeleton of an unknown (but speculated) sailor. Best of all, it's free! (Across the road is Cicarello's Fish and Chips which is also incredible!)
