  I was coming from Fier on my own and by bus, I then found a private car (mini furgon) to get to Ballsh and the driver organised for me a car up to Bylis, this latter coming to collect me 2 hours...  more »

  The archaeological park sits atop a mountain with a spectacular view. The entrance fees cost 300 Lek per person. There is no ticketing counter. The caretaker appeared as we arrived to collect the fees. I believe the site holds great history, but the information were insufficient to bring that across to tourists. The paths in the park are barely existent as they only comprise semi-trampled grass.

  The walls of Byllis were 2,200m long, enclosing 30 hectares of a plain atop a hill 524m above sea level. There were 6 gates in the city walls. The road coming from Apollonia passed through two of them, crossing Byllis in the direction of the narrows of gorges of the Vjosa river on the way to Macedonia or those of Antigonia in the direction of Epirus.
