The National Ethnographic Museum of Berat is a ethnographic museum located in Berat, Albania. It opened in 1979 and contains a diversity of everyday objects from throughout Berat's history. The museum contains original furniture and a number of household objects, wooden case, wall-closets, as well as chimneys and a well. Near the well is an olive press, wool press and many large ceramic dishes, revealing a glimpse of the historical domestic culture of Berat's citizens. The ground floor has a hall with a model of a medieval street with traditional shops on both sides and on the second floor is an archive, loom, village sitting room, kitchen and sitting room.

    Rambling traditional house and contents rather overwhelmed by French tourists the day we went (presumably easier to climb the short hill to this than to the castle?). But when they had gone and peace....  more »

    We were at Berat and this museum is walking distance from our lodging. We went on a Sunday and it was free to enter. It’s a small museum so we were done within 30 minutes. The museum is up the hill...  more »

    The traditional home on the second floor was really worth seeing. The description was barely readable though. The staff spoke English although very unfriendly. The security guard was really nice though. Public toilets available.

    Nice little museum in a lovely old house, which really gives you a feeling for how people used to live. Well-organized with good explanations. Friendly staff. Well worth a visit.
